Inflatable boats meant for sports in rapids or white-water rivers are known as River Boats. Though these vessels are similar to soft tails of the inflatable variety they feature some unique characteristics. River boats need a lower degre f inflating and thereby are produced using nylon fabrics rather than polyester for better performance. The sophisticated versions have rocker assembly that stabilizes the nose against haystacks or rooster tail effects. Scuppers are provided to bail out water in the rapids while floors are buoyant, well drained, and strong enough to resist impacts.

River boats are usually made for guides and sailing outfitters who cater to the sport loving enthusiasts on whitewater river adventure. Quite some fabricators make boats for individual and small group usage. The company North West Suppli is a manufacturer of single seat craft while Achilles and Avon construct boats for four and seven passengers respectively. These boats are great for an adventure along the Canadian rapids and their inflated bottom makes sailing a pleasure w hile maintaining stability. The more expensive river boats are made for heavier duty with bracket on the outboards thereby improving the navigation in the river. The cost of these boats make them less used in water sports in spite of their popularity in white water rafting uses. The Achilles boat costs less than $2000 which is two times the price of a soft tail. The larger Avon boats sell for over $6500.
